Assessment and Mitigation of DC Breaker Impacts on VSC-MTDC Grid Equipped With Power Flow Controller

DC circuit breakers are required to interrupt dc faults in multi-terminal HVDC (MTDC) grids. Consequently, their current limiting inductors can substantially impact the dynamic performance and stability of MTDC However, literature does not address assessment mitigation breaker inductance impacts on an grid equipped with a power flow controller (PFC). To fill this gap, paper evaluates effects PFC-equipped grid. Furthermore, expands capability PFC via development PFC-based damping improve enhance its damping. First, comprehensive small-signal model is developed. Then, eigenvalue frequency response analyses employed assess grid, considering inductances, converter station control parameters, network parameter uncertainty. Finally, time-domain simulations hardware-in-the-loop real-time carried out evaluate proposed verify theoretical analysis.
